Terms of use
Last updated October 20, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and QuestLabs LLC ("Quest Labs", "we", "us"), which makes Steelset Performance ("Steelset"): the iPhone app, the website at app.steelsetperformance.com, and our public website. By creating an account, accepting an invitation, or using Steelset, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy policy. If you don't agree, don't use Steelset.
Early access
Steelset is in early access. Features may change, be added, or be removed, and the service may sometimes be unavailable or not work as expected. We may offer free access during early access. Free access never turns into a charge by itself: you're charged only after you add a card and agree to the price shown. Please tell us about problems at the address below.
Who can use Steelset
- Independent athletes must be 18 or older and live in the United States.
- Gym athletes are added by their gym. Athletes under 18 can use Steelset only after a parent or legal guardian agrees. Children under 13 can use it only at a gym we've allowed to add them, after a parent signs the consent form. The parent or legal guardian who gives consent agrees to these terms and our Privacy policy, both for the athlete and for themselves; is responsible for the athlete's use of Steelset; pays the athlete's membership and fees; and accepts the sections "Exercise carries risk", "Disclaimers", and "Limits on our liability" on the athlete's behalf.
- Gym staff are added by their gym's administrator and use Steelset for the gym.
Your account
- Keep your password and authenticator app to yourself. You're responsible for what happens under your account.
- Give accurate information, especially your date of birth and any injuries, since programs and plans depend on them.
- Tell us or your gym if you think someone else has used your account.
- You can delete your account at any time in the app (Account, then "Delete my account").
Steelset is software; your gym provides the training
Steelset is a tool your gym uses to write programs, book classes, and take payments. Your gym, not Quest Labs, provides the training, coaching, classes, and facility, sets its prices and policies (including late-cancellation fees and refunds), and is responsible for them. Questions about your training, classes, or membership go to your gym.
Exercise carries risk
Strength training can cause injury. Steelset does not give medical advice, and nothing in it (a program, a target weight, a video, an alert, or an AI plan) replaces advice from a doctor or a qualified coach. Always consult a doctor before beginning any exercise plan. Stop and get help if something hurts. You train at your own risk.
AI training plans
Independent athletes can ask for training plans written by an AI model. An AI plan is general guidance written from your answers and your logs. It can be wrong or unsuitable for you, and it doesn't know anything you haven't told it. Use your judgment, adjust or skip anything that doesn't feel right, and report pain. The number of AI plans you can ask for may be limited (for example during a free trial or free access).
AI plans are only for independent athletes 18 and older. A gym athlete's information is never sent to an AI service (see our Privacy policy).
Payments
Gym memberships and fees. Your membership, its price, and any late-cancellation fee are set by your gym and owed to your gym. Your membership contract is with your gym, which may ask you to sign its own written contract. Where your gym tells us Virginia's Health Club Act applies to it, your membership contract with your gym is shown and signed in Steelset, and you can cancel it within three business days for a full refund, as the contract explains. Payments by card are processed by Stripe on your gym's behalf, and your gym is the seller. Quest Labs takes no share of them. If you're under 18, your parent or guardian pays. Refunds follow your gym's policy, except where the law requires a cancellation or a refund (for example, Virginia's Health Club Act). If your account is deleted or your membership ends early, no refund is made automatically by Steelset, and unpaid late-cancellation fees are still owed to your gym.
Independent subscription: automatic renewal. If you train on your own, you pay us a monthly subscription. Before you pay, the payment page shows the price and how often you'll be charged. By subscribing, you agree to the following:
- Your subscription renews automatically every month, and your card is charged the monthly price once a month, on the same day of the month your paid subscription began, until you cancel. The price is the one shown on the payment page.
- Cancel any time in the app: go to Account and tap "Cancel membership". You don't need to call or write to us. Canceling stops the next charge; you keep access until the end of the month you've paid for, and there's no refund for part of a month.
- Free trial: a new subscription may start with a free trial (its length is shown before you start), once per account. A card is needed to start it. If you don't cancel before the trial ends, your subscription starts automatically and your card is charged the monthly price on the day the trial ends, and every month after until you cancel. Canceling during the trial costs nothing.
- Your price stays the same while your subscription continues; a new price applies to new subscriptions. If we ever must change yours, we'll tell you at least 30 days before, and you can cancel before then.
Cards are handled by Stripe under Stripe's terms. We never see or store card numbers.
When service and charges end
- You cancel your independent subscription: no more charges; you keep access until the end of the month you've paid for.
- You cancel during a free trial: nothing is charged; access ends when the trial would have ended.
- You cancel your gym membership (in the app, Account, or with the link in your confirmation email): no more charges; it ends at the end of the period you've paid for.
- Your gym ends your membership now: it ends at once; any refund follows your gym's policy and the law.
- A payment fails: you keep using Steelset for 72 hours. After that your programs and plans lock until the payment is made.
- Free access ends: access ends on its last day; nothing is charged unless you've added a card and agreed to a price.
- Your gym closes: memberships end at the closing date. Adults can choose to keep training on their own (with an independent subscription) or close their accounts.
- You delete your account: everything in Steelset ends at once. Any membership or subscription ends right away with no refund from Steelset for the rest of the period, and unpaid late-cancellation fees are still owed to your gym. Deleting your account doesn't take away any right you have under your gym's contract or the law, such as a refund the law requires.
- You withdraw consent to your health information: you can't use Steelset for training until you consent again, but your membership or subscription and its charges continue until you cancel.
If you run a gym
If you're a gym's administrator, you also agree to the following for your gym. If you accept these terms for a gym, you confirm you're authorized to bind it, and "your gym" means the gym itself.
Fees and automatic renewal. Your gym's subscription continues month to month until canceled. Your gym pays us a monthly base fee plus a fee for each athlete with a membership, by card, at the prices of your gym's plan, shown before you add your card. The card is charged once a month, on the same day of the month the subscription began; the athlete fee follows the number of athletes with a membership, adjusted as it changes. Your plan's prices don't change. We may give your gym free days or free access, and we email you 14 and 3 days before free access ends. If we move your gym to a different plan, we'll tell you at least 30 days before.
Canceling. A gym administrator can cancel at any time on the Payments page; you don't need to contact us. Canceling stops the next charge. Your gym keeps using Steelset until the end of the month you've paid for, and that day becomes your gym's closing date: your athletes are told, and each can keep training on their own or close their account.
Taking payments. To charge your members, your gym opens a Stripe account through Steelset and agrees to Stripe's Connected Account Agreement. Your gym is the seller of its memberships, sets its prices and refund policy, and handles its members' questions and disputes about them.
Your members' information. Your gym is responsible for its people's information (the "controller") and decides what it records about them; you use it only to run your gym, and you're responsible for any consent the law requires, which Steelset asks for on your behalf and records. You answer your members' requests to see, correct, or delete their information, using Steelset's tools, and decide any appeal. We pass requests we receive about your gym's people to you within 3 business days and help when asked. Quest Labs processes the information for you as described below (we are your "processor"), and is itself responsible for what it decides on its own: securing Steelset, keeping it running, and its own business records.
Children under 13. You add children under 13 only after Quest Labs has allowed your gym to. You record a parent's consent in Steelset only when you hold the consent form signed by that parent. You keep each signed form while the child's account exists and for 3 years after it ends, and give Quest Labs a copy when asked. When a parent withdraws consent, you deactivate the child's account at once and tell us.
How we handle your members' information. For your gym's people, we process information on your gym's behalf:
- We use it only to provide Steelset to your gym, as you direct by how you use Steelset, and our staff keep it confidential.
- We use the companies listed in our Privacy policy to help provide Steelset, under terms that protect the information, and we'll tell you before adding a company that receives your members' information.
- When a person asks to see, correct, or delete their information, Steelset's tools let you answer, and we help when asked. We also help with any assessment the law requires of your gym.
- Steelset shows consent requests (such as health-information consent) on your gym's behalf and keeps the records.
- If a security breach affects your members' information, we'll tell you without unreasonable delay and help you meet your own notice duties.
- When your gym closes, each athlete can keep their information by training on their own, or delete it. You can ask us to return or delete the rest of your gym's information, and we'll do so within 30 days, except records the law requires us to keep.
Your staff. You add and remove your staff and are responsible for what they do in Steelset.
Laws for your memberships. Your gym is responsible for complying with the laws that apply to its memberships and its business, including health club laws such as the Virginia Health Club Act.
Your content. Programs, exercise entries, videos you link, and your logo are yours, and you confirm you have the right to use them. You let us store and show them to run Steelset for your gym.
Closing. Canceling closes your gym on the date above. You can also ask us to close your gym on another date. Either way, your athletes can keep training on their own or close their accounts, and memberships end at the closing date.
Indemnity. Your gym will defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Quest Labs and its members, managers, employees, and agents from any claim, loss, liability, damage, or expense (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your gym's training, classes, coaching, or facility; any injury to a person training with your gym; your gym's memberships, prices, fees, refunds, and dealings with its members; the information your gym records and how it uses it; the content your gym adds; or your gym's or its staff's breach of these terms or of the law.
Using Steelset fairly
Don't:
- use someone else's account, or let someone use yours;
- add people to a gym without the right to, or add false information;
- try to see information you aren't allowed to see, or get around Steelset's limits or security;
- copy, resell, or build a competing product from Steelset, or scrape it;
- upload anything unlawful, harmful, or that you don't have the right to use;
- use Steelset to break the law or to harm anyone.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, telling you why unless the law or safety prevents it.
Content and videos
Steelset, its design, its software, and our exercise library belong to Quest Labs. You may use them only to use Steelset as intended. What you log is yours; you let us store and use it to run Steelset for you and your gym, as our Privacy policy describes.
Exercise videos play from YouTube under YouTube's terms. We don't control them and aren't responsible for their content.
Ending
You can stop using Steelset and delete your account at any time. Your gym can remove you from the gym. We may stop offering Steelset, or part of it, with reasonable notice, and we'll give you a chance to download your information first. What happens to your information afterward is in our Privacy policy.
Disclaimers
Steelset is provided "as is" and "as available", with all faults. To the fullest extent the law allows, Quest Labs disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, and makes no promise that Steelset will always be available, error-free, or secure, or that any program, plan, or video is right for you.
Limits on our liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Quest Labs is not liable to you for any loss, injury, or damage of any kind arising from or related to Steelset or these terms, whether direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential, including lost profits or data. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn't allow to be limited.
Disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute goes to the state courts in Chesterfield County, Virginia, or the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Richmond Division, and you and we agree to their jurisdiction, except that either of us may bring a claim in small claims court. Before bringing a claim, please contact us so we can try to resolve it.
Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under consumer protection laws that can't be waived by agreement.
If you use the iPhone app
These terms apply to the Steelset app downloaded from Apple's App Store, as follows:
- Who the agreement is with. These terms are between you and Quest Labs only, not Apple. Quest Labs, not Apple, is solely responsible for the app and its content.
- Your license. We give you a personal, non-transferable license to use the app on Apple-branded products you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in Apple's Media Services Terms and Conditions, except that the app may be used by other accounts associated with you through Family Sharing or volume purchasing.
- Support. Quest Labs alone is responsible for maintenance and support of the app, as described in these terms. Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for it.
- Warranty. If the app fails to meet any warranty that applies to it, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the app's purchase price to you, if any (the app is free to download). To the fullest extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app, and any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, or expenses from a failure to meet a warranty are Quest Labs' responsibility to the extent these terms don't exclude them.
- Product claims. Quest Labs, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claims by you or anyone else about the app or your possession or use of it, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer protection, privacy, or similar laws.
- Intellectual property. If anyone claims that the app or your possession and use of it infringes their intellectual property rights, Quest Labs, not Apple, is solely responsible for investigating, defending, settling, and discharging that claim.
- Legal compliance. You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated by the U.S. Government as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Developer. Questions, complaints, or claims about the app go to Quest Labs at the address in "Contact us" below.
- Other terms. You must comply with any third-party terms that apply when you use the app, such as your wireless data service agreement.
- Apple as a third-party beneficiary. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms, and once you accept them, Apple has the right (and is deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.
Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. Each time we do, we update the date at the top. For a significant change, we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect if we can, and otherwise when it takes effect, and we'll ask you to agree to the new terms before you keep using Steelset. Other changes apply from the date at the top.
